The Magic of Fiction

No other experience can outdo the one of being lost in a magical world, be it falling into Middle-earth or finding yourself enticed in Wonderland. If that seems good to you, then, my friend, you are heartily invited to plunge into the magical land of fiction!

Fiction generally revolves around the narratives of protagonists in settings that are not factually accurate. This genre can be majorly sub-divided into crime, fantasy, romance, historical, horror, science fiction, contemporary, middle grade, and young adult. Some of my favorites, however, fall in the spaces between these.

Among semi-autobiographical fiction novels, Unfinished Portrait is one of my favorites written by Mary Westmacott, it is highly worth reading, as this romance novel revolves around a new hope of life found by the dejected protagonist, Celia, in the form of a man named Larrabee.

When it comes to fabricating realistic tales, Dan Brown happens to be one of my favorite authors! Be it Angels and Demons or Inferno, the novels, carved within such detailed, complex settings can hardly be imagined to be fiction. One can vividly visualize Robert Langdon and Vittoria Vetra, engaged in solving a mystery in Vatican City!

Science fiction is a genre of fiction dealing with imaginative content such as futuristic settings, parallel universes, and extraterrestrial life. My favorites in this genre include His Dark Materials trilogy, whose high fantasy content never fails to awe the reader!

As the well-known saying goes, “Those who don't know history are doomed to repeat it.” Afraid of being doomed, aren’t you? Not to worry my friend, the Century trilogy, unique of its kind, is the best historical fiction series for you!

The Maltese Falcon is my favorite mystery/detective fiction. A statue of a blackbird encrusted with jewels, The Maltese Falcon is a symbol of extreme wealth. What happens when it goes missing, and who can be trusted to find it?

Hocus Pocus! How could we even complete our magic of fiction without the Harry Potter series? This book is full of fantastic things, impossible to forget. From Hogsmeade Village, Hogwarts, to Platform 9¾ in King's Cross Station, J.K. Rowling has crafted a wondrous world for our imaginations to devour. The series has become a part of our day-to-day conversations.

Reading fiction allows people to put themselves in the shoes of others and empathize. Fictional stories also help a person to understand others and see the world from a new perspective. So next time, be sure to grab a fictional novel!
